The Nellie’s Name
Our name is a tribute to the eccentric and hospitable character
of Doug Schantz’s great- and great-great
grandmothers. The
welcoming and inclusive spirit of Nellie’s Sports Bar will
be reflective of these two
ladies, both of whom loved to entertain.
A link to this genteel past is represented by many items throughout
Nellies, such as:

~ Elegant pub-room walls and bar-back mirrors
~ Eighteenth-century lighting fixtures from the Baltimore's Penn Station

Nellie’s Building - We Now Have Free WiFi!
Downstairs, Nellie’s will offer guests an expansive bar with
soaring ceilings and an historic atmosphere
underscored by the exposed
brick walls of Addison Surlock’s old photography studio. Three
bay windows,
a stage, and eight TVs offer plenty of excitement for
Nellie’s fans. Upstairs, we feature an intimate pub room
bar
for private events and an expansive outdoor rooftop deck and bar
with a great view of the U street
corridor.

Nellie’s Sportscasting
Both Nellies loved their home teams, so we plan to show plenty of
local
sports teams such as the Washington Redskins, Nationals, Wizards
and Capitals as well as DC United. Some of the sports we will follow
include collegiate and pro football, baseball, basketball, tennis,
golf, and soccer. Main events such as playoff games and tournaments will be shown
on our stadium-sized viewing screen.
Nellie’s Happy Hour
Nellie’s has a popular “Beat-the-clock” happy hour which features special prices on delicious drinks and deep discounts by the hour on our eight-tap beer selection, starting at $1. More details about our happy hour are listed in our Calendar in addition to the “events” section of this packet.
Nellie’s Gear
Items will be for sale on Nellie’s web site shortly and at
the restaurant itself so guests can take their Nellie experience
